Thieves were busy in Blackie on the night of July 19. Three businesses in the area were the victims of break and enters in the wee hours of the morning. The first call came in to the High River RCMP at 4:20 a.m. when an intrusion alarm went off at a compressor station belonging to Penn West Energy. When the RCMP arrived it was discovered the gate to the building had been forced open and the culprits had already gone. The building had been rummaged through and the only item believed to be missing is a micro clip multi-gas detector, valued at $800.
The second call came in at 6:52 a.m. from BXL Explosives where the door had been forced open and the office had been ransacked.
"It looks like they were looking for items to steal and just went through the office," said Cpl. Dave Gawthrop of the High River RCMP.
No explosives were kept on the site, and the only items missing were a few sets of keys.
Less than half an hour later another call of a break and enter came in, this time at an automotive business in the Railway Street area. The front door was damaged and missing was a quantity of tools, a toolbox and two vehicles. Missing from the scene were a white 2010 Toyota Camry and a grey 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
Two days later the Camry was recovered in Valleyview, Alta., over 700 km away from where it was stolen.
"We're working in conjunction with the Valleyview RCMP now to try to recover the other vehicle that may be in their area as well," Gawthrop said. "We're investigating the possibility all the crimes may be related and urge anyone in the Blackie area who may have seen anything or anyone suspicious on the night of the 19th to report it to the High River Detachment."
